PULS, the Perceptive Urban Smart Lighting System
What is PULS?
PULS is a comprehensive system of urban smart lighting for smart cities and communities of the future. It was created as a result of the consortium cooperation of three Slovenian companies, namely GeoEnergetika d.o.o., Impedanca d.o.o. and Garex d.o.o. and with the support of the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
PULS combines two innovative and complementary components - the smart e-SMS lighting system and the open Smart City Management Platform. Combining the two enables integrated, localized and in-depth capture of environmental information and efficient automated management of entire urban environments.
The operation is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European union under European Regional Development Fund.
What are the benefits of PULS?
The goal of the PULS project is to establish itself as a leading provider of smart solutions at the international level, both at the product level and at the company level, with an emphasis on the Irish market which is recognized as an excellent development market due to strong development potential and accelerated implementation of advanced technologies, with a clear goal of sustainable development.
Real-time data acquisition and fast and efficient response to a wide range of environmental parameters (temperatures, concentrations of hard particles, CO2, pedestrian movements) is a solution that significantly upgrades existing lighting systems.
The lights are characterized by a modern, minimalist design and a high degree of integration and compatibility with the existing infrastructure, which ensures easy placement in space, without additional housings.
e-SMS is an energy-efficient lighting solution that, with the latest LED modules, enables energy savings of up to 80% compared to traditional street lighting.
The open Smart City Management Platform was created under the auspices of our company, Garex d.o.o. It enables the integration of e-SMS into smart city and community ecosystems and offers the possibility of intelligent, automatic control of devices based on machine learning, processing of large amounts of data (Big data) and the use of advanced analytics (forecasting and decision-making on efficiency based on samples).
In addition to the back-end system, which enables efficient integration of devices and systems from different vendors (multi-vendor support), the platform focuses on building a single user interface that will provide users with an easy, friendly, transparent and up-to-date display of urban environments within one interface and thus enable easier and data-supported decision making.

Back in ancient Rome first oil lamps were used to light streets. Then in 1878, Paris introduced the first electric streetlights. Holonyak Jr. managed to develop the first light-emitting diode, shortly called LED, back in 1962.
Going further, in 2020, the joint project of Impedanca, Garex and Geoenergetika took a couple of steps forward. They are merging historical needs to illuminate streets with the latest light technology and adding technology to observe the environment.
